How to Measure Waist, Hip & Inseam Correctly
How to Measure Waist, Hip & Inseam Correctly
Three measurements form the foundation of accurate bottomwear sizing. Here's exactly how to take each one correctly at home.
Waist
Wrap a soft measuring tape around your waist at the point where you naturally wear your trousers or jeans — usually just above the hip bone, not at your narrowest point higher up. Keep the tape snug but not pulled tight.
Hip
Measure around the fullest part of your hips and seat, keeping the tape level all the way around. This is especially useful for relaxed or baggy fit sizing, where hip room matters more.
Inseam
Measure from the crotch seam down to where you want the pants to end (usually at the ankle or top of the shoe). The easiest way to do this accurately is to measure an existing pair of pants that fits you well, laid flat.
A Helpful Trick
If you own a pair of pants that already fits you well, measuring that garment directly (waistband flat, inseam from crotch to hem) is often more accurate than measuring your body directly.
Putting It Together
Cross-reference all three measurements against the size chart on the product page rather than relying on just one number — this gives the most accurate overall fit prediction.
