Denim started life as a tough, no-nonsense fabric for miners and railroad workers in the 1800s — valued for durability, not style. The rivets, the pockets, the heavyweight cotton twill: every detail was originally functional, built to survive years of hard labour.

From Workwear to Rebellion

By the mid-20th century, jeans had crossed over into youth culture, worn by rock musicians and film stars as a symbol of rebellion against formal dress codes. That association with individuality is part of why denim has never really gone out of fashion since.

From One Fit to Many

For most of denim's history, there was really only one silhouette on offer. The explosion of fits we see today — straight, relaxed, baggy, loose, regular — is a relatively recent development, driven by streetwear culture and a broader shift toward comfort-first dressing.
