Most denim doesn't wear out from age — it wears out from a handful of avoidable habits. Here are the ones worth fixing.
Every wash puts mechanical stress on the fibres and fades the colour. Unless there's a visible stain or odour, jeans usually don't need washing after every single wear.
Hot water and tumble drying on high heat both weaken cotton fibres and cause shrinkage. Cold water and air drying protect both the fit and the wash.
A loose thread or small tear left unaddressed often turns into a bigger repair job. Catching it early with a quick stitch extends the life of the jeans significantly.
Folding away jeans before they're fully dry can lead to mildew and odour, especially in humid climates. Always let denim dry completely before storing.
